10 Cozy Fall Books You’ll Want on Your Autumn TBR 🍂

Grab your cozy fleece blanket, preferably the one with pumpkins, skulls, or bats, and settle in with your hot beverage of choice. For me, that’s usually a cute mug filled with herbal tea, a spoonful of honey, and all the cozy vibes. Today I’m sharing my favorite cozy fall books to help you find the perfect autumn reads.

It’s the perfect time to share my list of cozy fall books: stories that warm my heart like a blanket of emotions, or sometimes make me want to hide under that blanket. I put this guide together so that when the leaves start falling and the air gets chilly, you’ll have the perfect stack of reads to curl up with.

If you’re curious about what’s on my personal TBR this season, I also shared my Fall Reading List 2025 with all the books I plan to dive into. But today’s list is all about recommendations I think will bring you that perfect autumn energy.

This list covers every kind of fall mood. You’ll find books that make you swoon, cry, feel at home, or even get a little paranoid in the best way. So let’s dive in. Here are 10 books that feel like fall to me, and hopefully a few that will sneak their way onto your TBR too. 🍂📚

Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross – Cozy Fall Books Recommendation

Cozy Fall Read #1: Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross

I will never stop raving about this book, and I’ll recommend it to everyone, especially in the fall. If you’re a fan of the Letters of Enchantment series (Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows), this one will give you all the nostalgia. You’re brought back into a familiar world, yet it unfolds as an entirely new story of its own.

Beyond the nostalgia, Rebecca Ross layers in vivid seasonal descriptions that feel perfect for cozy reading. The pacing is beautifully slow, making it the ideal companion for crisp autumn evenings when you want to savor every page.

If you want to see my full gush-fest about this book, I wrote a detailed review in my August Reading Wrap Up. Spoiler: I’ll never stop recommending it.

Cozy Fall Read #2: Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia Of Faeries by Heather Fawcett

Let’s start with the obvious: the cover of this book screams cozy fall vibes with its mushrooms and flowers, and I am an absolute sucker for it. Thankfully, the story inside delivers just as much coziness. Between the conversations with fae, the academic studies, and a female main character who would rather be surrounded by books than people, this one feels like a love letter to readers.

If you’re a book lover searching for cozy fall books, add this to your list immediately. The best part? This is only the beginning of the series, so you don’t have to say goodbye to this magical world after just one read.

Cozy Fall Read #3: The Woodsmoke Women’s Book of Spells by Rachel Greenlaw

I just finished this one, and honestly, it radiates pure autumn vibes. Rachel Greenlaw writes the seasons and the mountain setting with such vivid detail that you feel completely immersed in her world. The Woodsmoke range hums with ancient magic, while the forests, crisp air, and shifting weather pull you straight into that in-between space where fall feels both enchanting and bittersweet.

As I read, I found myself picturing golden leaves drifting through the air, cool mist curling over the hills, and that quiet sense of change that fall always carries. It’s the kind of story that belongs at the heart of any cozy fall reading list — perfect for readers who love atmospheric magic woven into everyday life.

Cozy Fall Read #4: Katabasis by R.F. Kuang

This recommendation might not scream “cozy” at first glance, but hear me out. Cozy means something different to everyone, and for me, R.F. Kuang’s dark academia twist is exactly what makes Katabasis feel like a fall comfort read.

Her magic system is unlike anything I’ve ever read. It feels so tangible, almost like it could exist if you studied hard enough. Kuang blends the rigor of academics with the wonder of magic, creating a world where power doesn’t come from being chosen but from working relentlessly. That balance makes the story feel attainable in a way I didn’t expect. It even gave me a sense of home, despite the fact I was never headed for a master’s degree.

The book is intense, smart, and atmospheric in that perfect autumn way. If your idea of cozy includes rainy-day studying, stacks of books, and just a touch of darkness, then this belongs on your fall reading list.

Cozy Fall Read #5: The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young

I read this one over a year ago, and it still lingers in my mind whenever fall rolls around. The Unmaking of June Farrow just feels like autumn in book form: small-town mountains, whispers of family curses, and a heroine who’s caught between past and future.

What made it stand out to me was the atmosphere. The Farrow family curse isn’t just a plot point; it hangs in the air like fog rolling through the hills. Pair that with doors that appear out of nowhere, secrets waiting to be uncovered, and a love story that stretches across time, and you’ve got the kind of book that begs to be read under a blanket with a cup of tea.

It gave me that same energy as Practical Magic — magical, a little bittersweet, and deeply rooted in family and fate. Not flashy or loud, but steady and enchanting in a way that sneaks up on you. Definitely one I’d recommend if you’re craving a story that’s both haunting and heartwarming.

Cozy Fall Read #6: Intermezzo by Sally Rooney

This was my very first Sally Rooney novel, and wow did it make an impression. I’ll admit, it took me a minute to adjust to her signature no-quotations style, but once I did, I was hooked. The messy relationships are everything: brothers tangled in grief, complicated love triangles, and quiet moments that feel both raw and tender.

What made this one feel like a cozy fall book to me wasn’t just the backdrop of Ireland (although I’ll admit that adds a lot! Ireland has my heart, and Belfast calls to me every day). It was also the small things: the games of chess, the brotherly dynamics, and the way grief was explored in such a thoughtful, human way. I even found myself relating to Ivan so much that it felt like I was sitting across from him, watching the board come alive.

If your definition of cozy includes complicated characters, heartfelt connections, and stories that linger long after you close the book, then Intermezzo deserves a spot on your cozy fall reading list.

Cozy Fall Read #7: Summer Fridays by Suzanne Rindell

On the surface, this is a book rooted in summer: New York City adventures, AOL chats, and Friday afternoons filled with hot dogs, ferry rides, and spontaneous escapes. But to me, that’s exactly why it belongs on a list of cozy fall books. Even though the story is drenched in the warmth of summer, the heart of it is about connection, hope, and the comfort of being truly seen.

Following Sawyer through her lonely yet transformative season felt like slipping into someone else’s shoes while still finding pieces of myself on every page. Suzanne Rindell captures New York in a way that made me feel like I was there with Sawyer. Sitting on the ferry, walking through the city streets, and daring to hope for something more.

The ending surprised me (in a good way) and reminded me that even when life feels heavy, there’s always space for hope. And sometimes, that’s what makes a story feel cozy! Not the lack of sadness, but the way it balances heartbreak with the warmth of possibility. That’s why Summer Fridays will always be a comfort read for me, perfect for when the leaves start falling and the world around me feels a little softer.

Cozy Fall Read #8: This Thing Between Us by Gus Moreno

I read this one last year, and it has stayed with me ever since. The mix of grief, loneliness, and horror left me both unsettled and strangely comforted. Even now, I still think about that unforgettable ending.

What I love about this book is how it blends heartache with the eerie intimacy of technology. It’s haunting, yes, but it also feels deeply human in a way that makes it perfect for cozy fall books. For me, cozy doesn’t always mean warm and sweet — sometimes it means sinking into a story that chills you while also making you feel less alone.

If you want a fall read that balances raw emotion with skin-prickling horror, This Thing Between Us deserves a spot on your TBR.

Cozy Fall Read #9: Jujutsu Kaisen 0 by Gege Akutami

When people think of cozy fall books or manga, they usually picture something soft, slice-of-life, or cottagecore. Jujutsu Kaisen probably isn’t the first title that comes to mind. But for me, there’s something incredibly comforting about diving into a series that I absolutely love, even when the vibe leans dark and unsettling.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is the prequel volume, and it holds a special place in my heart because of Yuta and the way his story unfolds. The curses, the tension, the shadows creeping at the edges! It all fits perfectly with autumn’s darker side. And even though the world can feel heavy, there’s comfort in the characters, their bonds, and the familiarity of a series I return to again and again.

This isn’t cozy in the pumpkin-scented candle kind of way. It’s cozy in the sense of curling up under a blanket while the wind howls outside, completely lost in a world that’s eerie, emotional, and strangely comforting. And honestly? That’s exactly what fall reading is all about.

Cozy Fall Read(s) #10: Arc of a Scythe Trilogy by Neal Shusterman

Sometimes a series just sweeps you off your feet and refuses to let go. For me, that was Neal Shusterman’s Arc of a Scythe trilogy. The first book (Scythe) absolutely floored me! I left my review at the time as “A BEAUTIFUL FREAKING BOOK OMG” and honestly, I still stand by it. It’s thought-provoking, sharp, and impossible to put down.

The second book (Thunderhead) left me reeling in a totally different way. All I could manage to say was, “wtf man 😭.” And that about sums it up… shocking, unsettling, but also so gripping you can’t look away.

By the time I reached the third (The Toll), I’ll admit, I struggled a little in the middle. So much was happening that it felt overwhelming, and I wasn’t sure it would land for me. But those final 100 pages? Pure magic. The ending pulled everything together in a way that had me clutching the book and whispering, “okay, okay, this was worth it.” I ended up at a 4.5 star rating, which felt right.

And yes, while this series isn’t “cozy” in the classic pumpkin-spice-sweater sense, it is the kind of immersive, emotional story you want to lose yourself in during the fall. For me, the mix of dystopian world-building, moral questions, and even that quiet little romance subplot (Rowan & Citra forever, sorry not sorry) makes it a perfect candidate for my cozy fall books list.

Bonus Cozy Fall Books on My TBR

It wouldn’t be a real blog post without a peek at the TBR pile, right? These aren’t your classic blanket-by-the-fire cozy fall books, but they each bring an atmosphere that makes me want to pick them up when the days get shorter and the weather cools.

For example, Dead Poets Society feels like the ultimate nod to fall with its themes of learning, friendship, and the bittersweet beauty of chasing dreams. The Exorcism of Faeries sounds like the kind of dark, whimsical folklore that practically begs to be read in autumn. And The Only Good Indians has been sitting on my list forever — haunting, unsettling, and highly recommended by so many readers. Plus, I already adore Stephen Graham Jones.

They may not be the “pumpkin spice latte” of cozy fall books, but they’re exactly the kind I reach for when I want something heavier, darker, and deeply atmospheric. Maybe they’ll feel like the perfect cozy fall books to you too. If so, let’s be TBR buddies and compare notes once I finally dive in.

Dead Poets Society on my TBR – Cozy Fall Books Vibes

Dead Poets Society by N.H. Kleinbaum

This book has been on my radar for ages, and fall feels like the perfect time to finally dive in. The movie is one of my all-time favorites, and I rewatch it almost every autumn. But since books are always better than the movie (right?), I’m hopeful this story will captivate me even more on the page.

I already know I’ll be soaking up the themes of friendship, learning, and chasing dreams, and I can’t wait to experience them in their original form. My hope is that reading it will feel like curling up under a blanket with all the autumn nostalgia I already get from the film, but deeper and more emotional.

Predicted Coziness: 🧸ྀི🧸ྀི🧸ྀི🧸ྀི🧸ྀི

The Exorcism of Faeries by J.L. Vampa

This book feels like it was written to climb straight onto my fall TBR. The premise alone has everything I want: a daughter of morticians studying botany at Trinity College, a forbidden romance with her professor, and fae spirits invading Dublin. Honestly, could it scream autumn any louder?

What really sold me, though, were the haunting graphics I’ve seen floating around. The mix of folklore, academia, and eerie atmosphere makes it the exact kind of story I imagine curling up with when the nights get longer. And since Ireland is one of my favorite places in the world, the setting already feels like home.

I haven’t read this one yet, but I’m predicting it will be one of those cozy fall books that blends dark whimsy with just enough unease to make me want to pull the blanket a little tighter. Forbidden romance plus fae possession? Sign me up.

The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones – Cozy Fall Books Pick

The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones

This book has been sitting on my TBR for way too long, and honestly, it’s getting embarrassing at this point. My shelves are overflowing, but I keep telling myself I’ll pick this one up soon. And I really need to, because Stephen Graham Jones has quickly become one of my favorite voices in horror.

The premise already gives me chills: four childhood friends, a disturbing event from their past, and a vengeful entity that refuses to let them go. It’s unsettling, sharp, and full of the kind of commentary that makes horror linger long after the last page. From what I’ve heard, it’s equal parts terrifying and brilliant! Exactly the type of story that belongs in a stack of cozy fall books, even if it’s the kind that makes you hide under the blanket instead of relaxing on top of it.

I haven’t cracked it open yet, but this is one I’m determined to finally tackle. Dark, haunting, and unforgettable? That’s the autumn vibe I’m chasing this year.

Predicted Coziness: 🧸ྀི🧸ྀི🧸ྀི

And that’s my stack of cozy fall books; a mix of old favorites, recent reads, and a few I’m still itching to dive into. Whether you’re here for lyrical fantasy, dark academia, spooky folklore, or even a manga curveball, I hope at least one of these titles finds its way onto your autumn TBR.

Fall is all about slowing down, curling up, and getting lost in a story that makes you feel something: comfort, chills, or even just the quiet joy of turning pages as the leaves change outside.

So tell me: what’s on your cozy fall reading list? Drop your recs in the comments because my TBR is never full (no matter what my shelves try to say).

And if you want to follow along in real time you can find me over on Instagram, @alittleroam. That’s where I’ll be sharing reviews, updates, and plenty of chaotic reading thoughts this season.
